According to the latest report by the World Economic Forum (WEF), the world is lacking 3 million cybersecurity professionals, while new cyber threats are arising daily. Hiring and keeping cyber experts is one of the most serious challenges companies are facing today.
After the opening of the new office in Uzbekistan, being Sababa’s main hub in the entire region of Central Asia, we immediately started looking for young talents in order to build a team capable of supporting customers locally. And what better field for scouting than local universities?
Encouraged by the great success of the first Cybersecurity Contest conducted last October, we decided to host the second edition in collaboration with TUIT (Tashkent University of Information Technologies), seeking bright minds to be turned into cybersecurity professionals.
This time the Contest took place over two days and in two different cities. The first round, on March 17, was held at the TUIT premises in Tashkent, where last year’s winners are completing their studies. Showing no less potential for talented students, Fergana was the next venue, where we were welcomed by all the top management of the university.
Also this time, the initiative has been received with great enthusiasm, having 100+ students from different TUIT faculties – including Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Telecommunication Technologies, and more – applying to take part in the Contest. The test itself – aimed at assessing both the cybersecurity background and the creativity and business mindset of the participants – covered a wide range of topics, from MITRE ATT&CK framework to Endpoint Detection and Response.
“We are glad to have successfully organised the second Cybersecurity Contest – this time in two different cities – and to cooperate more and more actively with the local universities. Investing in brilliant young students and future generations is of fundamental importance for the country’s development and growth, not only with regard to cybersecurity”, comments Hedi Marcassoli, Managing Director Central Asia, “I would also like to personally thank all the TUIT staff for the support in the arrangement of the event and their warm welcome”.
The tests are still being evaluated and the winners will be announced soon: up for grabs the chance to start working in Sababa Security CA office in Tashkent, which is already fully operational!
